My Wealthy Affiliate Review – My Perspective of Online Business Building

Wealthy Affiliate Education

If you are looking for a Wealthy Affiliate review or online business building information, you found it.
I have learned a few things from twenty years of online business building. You want to have:
  • a business that makes money, not promises
  • a complete training system that includes both video, text, and hands-on learning experience
  • a spam-free learning environment without being pitched endless upgrades
In fact, there are so many choices for marketing products and services or creating your own blog. And there is no one-size-fits-all. All I can do is hope I point you in the direction right for you.
Before I review Wealthy Affiliate, here is a quick overview about building a business online.

How to Build a Business Online

Business building is not the same thing as website building.
Building an online business or starting a blog is a great way to build passive income to supplement your pay check. Build it well and it could replace your paycheck.

Entrepreneurship is about creating and implementing a business concept. Then taking financial risks hoping to make a profit. Planning and budgeting help mitigate the financial risk.
Planning is a key component to success.
As always, I encourage all new or potential business owners to develop a business plan. Because a business plan is your “roadmap” to success. It keeps you focused on your goals.
The U.S. Small Business Administration has information and resources for small business owners. And SBA supports SCORE, a nonprofit association.
SCORE helps small businesses grow and achieve their goals through education and mentorship. Resources include tools like business plan templates.
While business plans are not required, I found my tax services business plan to be essential. Particularly researching and defining my target market and making a budget. (Professional tax software is expensive!)
My business plan included a section on marketing. The plan included:
  • being an authorized Internal Revenue Service “e-filer.” IRS approval helped with building trust with clients.
  • providing a client engagement letter. The letter stated I would follow Generally Accepted Accounting Principles. This was my “no dogs as dependents” clause!
I have used the planning process to create my online business as well.
I built some websites trying to implement my business plan.
I tried a bunch of tools, programs, applications, sitebuilders. I tried or used GeoCities, Joomla, Microsoft FrontPage, Wix, Weebly, Affilorama, WordPress, Wealthy Affiliate, Solo Build It! and more forgotten programs.
Of all the programs I have used, the following three stand out from the crowd.
I can say all kinds of things about all the programs I have used.
Both good and bad.
But I am going to leave that for you to decide for yourself. Because part of researching a potential business is evaluating alternatives.
You see, what works for me may not for you. Wealthy Affiliate works for me.
I could give you the pros and cons as I see it. But I don’t know anything about you as a reader or entrepreneur. So if I say a fact or opinion is a pro for me, it may be a con for you.
I suggest using a T-chart.
TCharts are a type of chart, a graphic organizer. A person uses them to list and examine two facets of a topic. Facets like the pros and cons, advantages and disadvantages, facts vs. opinions, etc.
Start with identifying your goals and resources (time and budget). Identify underlying assumptions like how much time and money you have for your business.
Once you have determined your business concept, your are ready to start.
An idea for a business that includes basic information such as the service or product, the target demographic, and a unique selling proposition that gives a company an advantage over competitors. business concept may involve a new product or simply a novel approach to marketing or delivering an existing product.
So, what about Wealthy Affiliate?

Wealthy Affiliate Overview

What is Wealthy Affiliate?
Wealthy Affiliate is an online community membership site founded in 2005. It is a community for learning, creating, and building successful online businesses. Members network with fellow members and learn from thousands of experts. Everyone receives websites based on the popular WordPress platform. Free members get two websites. Premium members receive 50 websites. There is enough training and daily step-by-step tasks helping members build out their websites.

Aspects of Wealthy Affiliate:

1. Training university
2. Website hosting
3. Affiliate program

Wealthy Affiliate Training

Wealthy Affiliate University provides thousands of hours of proven training to members. There is so much training that it is often referred to as a university. Training includes:
  • classroom,
  • live video training,
  • one-on-one training,
  • community support,
  • and so much more.
Members learn about choosing niches, building websites, generating traffic, content marketing, and more. Members learn to identify the niches related to their passions or interests. The idea is if members are passionate about something like hobbies, they will be motivated to do what is needed to build a successful business. They will not be discouraged by difficulties or distracted by other opportunities.
The following is the course outline for Level 1 training. Level 1 training is available to all members including free members. Levels 2-5 are available for premium members only.

Wealthy Affiliate Website Hosting

Wealthy Affiliate provides a complete website hosting package.

The following chart shows a comparison of Wealthy Affiliate website hosting features with several competitors.

If I were to cancel my Wealthy Affiliate premium account, I would need to move my sites to another web host. In that situation I would move my websites to BlueHost. But I would want the Standard Optimized WordPress hosting for my sites.

Affiliate Program

The affiliate training goes step-by-step into creating an income stream from sponsoring new members into Wealthy Affiliate. Each course builds upon the previous course lessons starting with the construction of your foundation working through content development, promoting through social media, developing your target markets, learning the power of search engines and effectively using paid advertising.

There Are Wealthy Affiliate University Complaints

As I stated earlier, no product or company is perfect. Even I have stated displeasure about the Wealthy Affiliate member reviews of other companies. Members promote the Wealthy Affiliate program as a way to make money. Unfortunately, they promote it in the Make Money Online niche, which is extremely competitive. They are competing against unethical marketers promoting overnight “get-rich-quick” schemes. As a consequence, there are many “fake reviews” that disparage competitors to make their products look better.

I have never felt the need to blast a competitor’s program just to make mine look better. That reflects poorly on me and the product I am promoting.
I have even heard complaints about how much Wealthy Affiliate costs. My response goes back to the comments about business planning and research. Cost is a value judgment. Comparing the three companies I mentioned earlier:
  • Affilorama – offers a 30-day trial period for $1.
  • Solo Build It! – offers a 90-day money back guarantee.
  • Wealthy Affiliate – offers a 7 day free trial period in which a member can get a month upgrade to premium for $19.

Many wonder if Wealthy Affiliate is a scam or not

I don’t. Wealthy Affiliate is not a scam. It works for me. I just wish it taught me how to write!
Wealthy Affiliate delivers a lot of content to members. Training, community support, website hosting, keyword research and analysis, and much more.
My comment to people who say Wealthy Affiliate is too expensive is to go online and check prices. Check prices on the following services:
  • Website Hosting with daily backup, enterprise & BotNet security, 25 domains & 25 free websites, SSL certificates, and more
  • Affiliate marketing training
  • Weekly live webinars
  • Business training (website building, marketing, SEO, developing content, traffic generation, etc)
  • 1-on-1 coaching
But above all else, check it out for yourself. No credit card is required to take the Starter membership.

  1. Hi Glen, thanks for your honesty.

I was once a member of Affilorama but quit because they kept offering me all of these AffiloUpsells , some costing as much as $995 whihc is too much for me.

I was a little angry to be honest because I sfelt it was deceptive of them to promise me they can show me how to build an online business, I become a Premium member and then they told me I needed this and that, it made me think they don’t even believe in their own product’s ability to ‘get me there’.

It looks like there’s a lot included with the standard Wealthy Affiliate Premium membership, but please before I get involved, are there any other programs or upsells I should be aware of?

Many thanks, I appreciate your time.

    1. Hi Simon. Thanks for reading and commenting. I was a member of Affilorama way back when. I even bought the AffiloJetpack to build a website. I already had another website up and running. So I decided to go the “easy” route and buy the packaged site. Prices were a lot lower in those days. I am/was not very good from learning by watching videos. I learn better by being hands on.

Wealthy Affiliate only has the premium and free membership which is to try it out before taking the premium membership. The premium membership gives members the 25 domains and 25 free (sub-domain) websites plus all the training. Of course, buying your domain name is a separate charge. WA prices are competitive, and probably cheaper than GoDaddy for instance. I also bought a domain name from NameCheap. The only optional upgrade is Jaaxy which is a keyword tool. But WA has a keyword tool within their tool box. There are many keyword tools both free and paid online.

I use couple of the free domains as landing pages. And a couple as test sites for testing themes and plugins.

      Hope this helps.

    1. Yes, it is complex. Building a business online requires focus, being patient, and being persistent. It also requires solid foundational training. That’s why I find Wealthy Affiliate training to be among the best. And it is suitable for all age and skill levels. For anyone that is a beginner, I recommend they take the starter membership. It is free. Do ALL of the phase 1 training. And then decide if you want to build an online business. Don’t spend any money until you are sure. (There is a discounted offer for the first month of premium membership. But I suggest passing on the offer.) Because it takes a COMMITMENT to succeed.

Anyone saying you can get wealthy overnight by signing up for their program is telling you nonsense. The get-rich-overnight and we-do-all-the-work hyped business opportunities are designed to take your money.
